Stewards crowned West Essex Tag Rugby Champions
Stewards Academy were represented well in this year’s West Essex Tag Rugby Tournament in St John’s Epping on Friday the 3rd of May. It was the first time that the school has entered into this prestigious competition. Two teams participated from year 7 and year 8. They were the only Harlow school to obtain a place in the tournament. So with the sun shining and the girls ready to play and determined to succeed.
Year 7 struggled to settle in from the off and had lost their first 3 consecutive games to much stronger year 8 teams, however they gritted their teeth and came back fighting with a draw and two wins in a row. They beat St John B and Davenant B. They were placed a decent 5th overall and as they will still play in this age category next year the experience gained will definitely prove beneficial.
Year 8 stormed off from the first whistle to win against Davenant, St John’s, West Hatch and against our own year 7 team. They were quick paced and showed teamwork is the key to success. They were placed 1st in the tournament and were crowned West Essex Tag Rugby Champions.
