Homework

Year 9 a

Year 9 is an important year for the students. They are not only gearing themselves up for their SAT’s, but will be making their choices for their options. I cannot stress how important this year is in terms of building a good foundation for their future careers. The tutorial programme this year is designed to support pupils with careers information and advice and guidance on how best to learn.

Examinations Friday 11th January - Thursday 17th January 2008
Pupils in year 9 undertake internal examinations in January. These are designed to provide useful experience before the SATs in May. Pupils should plan their revision carefully and aim to achieve the best possible results. By successfully completing these examinations pupils will give themselves the confidence needed to tackle the SATs.

Choosing Options
Upper School Courses Evening - Tuesday 18th March 2008
Pupils and parents are invited to attend an evening to learn more about the subjects on offer at KS4. This is the ideal opportunity to ask any questions, to view the resources used in departments and to look at the type of work required. Selecting which subjects to study at KS4 is an important decision and pupils should find out all they can before making a final choice.

SATs Tuesday 6th May - Friday 9th May 2008
These are the crucial exams that will determine the pupils’ performance for their GCSE’s. Pupils should begin to review topics for at least ½ an hour a night from September. This will help them to perform to the best of their ability. There are also SAT’s revision books available for English, Maths and Science, which pupils have access to. Pupils are able to purchase these from the relevant department.

Insight into Work Day
Pupils will have an opportuity to learn more about the working world by participating in Insight into Work Day which will take place on Wednesday 9th July 2008. On this day they are permitted to attend work with an adult and find out more about the workplace.
