Building on a Firm Foundation

Year 8 is a crucially important year where the foundations are laid for success in the SATs at the end of Year 9. However, it is also the year between settling into Stewards in Year 7, when everything is new and unfamiliar, and Year 9, when the pressure of SATs descends!

Throughout the year we will be aiming to keep students on track for their targets by a continuous monitoring of their progress.

Target Setting Day is a very important part of this process, as each student has a 10 minute appointment with their tutor to discuss their progress and set targets for the rest of Year 8.

During registration periods, pupils will be working on a range of topics to support their learning such as Current Affairs, discussion time and private reading. They will also undertake work on careers to gain better understanding of the opportunities available today and the skills and qualifications required to obtain these positions.

Year 8 pupils are encouraged to take on responsibilities. As ‘Student of the Day’ they work in reception, run messages, sign visitors in and out as well as escort them to their appointment. They provide a polite and friendly face to all visitors, as any receptionist would.

All pupils will record their homework in their planners and should establish a clear routine for completing homework. Good work habits established now will stand them in good stead for the future.
