In reality, the students begin Year 11
in the summer term of Year 10. This is when
they apply to become prefects. Stewards
feels that every pupil should have the opportunity
to become a prefect. Students will apply
for the role and, regardless of prior history,
are able to experience the rigorous training
day where students are able to learn about
how to deal with younger students and are
given help to identify potential problems.
Year 11 begins the final countdown to the end of the child’s compulsory education. Working in partnership with parents we endeavour to provide a smooth route towards leaving, ensuring that every student reaches their potential.
- During the winter term the majority of GCSE course work should be completed so that students can concentrate on exam preparation.
- A study support evening is held so that parents can be shown the best ways to help their child.
- During tutorial lessons, study support and revision techniques will be explored to ensure that the run up to exams is as smooth as possible.
- An IPR is issued early in the spring term and is quickly followed by a Parents’ Evening so that any issues can be discussed. We encourage the student to attend this meeting with their parents.
- Numerous revision clinics are held at lunch time and after school. These help with particular areas of the curriculum that a student may be worried about but also aims to refresh their memories and improve techniques.
New York
For the past four years Stewards has offered a trip of a life time to Year 11 Students, a 5 day trip to New York. During the trip students take in the sites and experience the special magic that New York has to offer. This is a never to be forgotten trip.
Leaver’s Day
Leavers Day is one of Stewards proudest
moments and it is true to say that many
students begin to plan their own special
day as they watch their first leavers’
day when they are in Year 7.
We encourage our students to be proud of their achievements and of their time at Stewards. A great deal of planning goes in to the day. Typically students hire ‘interesting’ forms of transport, usually limousines, and arrive at school for their leavers’ assembly. They arrive in the quad to a crowd of pupils and parents and are photographed as they emerge from their cars. Eventually, after many photographs, they all arrive in the hall where a special assembly takes place, full of memories and tears.
We like to feel that the students are ‘glad to leave yet sad to leave’. After the assembly finishes here is an evening to look forward to. Traditionally the students have no idea where the festivities will take place. They get on a coach and end at a secret destination where they will celebrate their time at Stewards. Each year the destination becomes more and more glamorous! As do the students.
After leavers’ day, study leave begins, and it is full steam ahead to the exams. Students will not be left alone for the final weeks, revision classes will be running and they are encouraged to come in to school to seek advice and reassurance.
