Tutor Group Placement

When pupils join Stewards school in Year 7, they are placed in mixed ability tutor groups put together with reference to the information provided by Primary schools.


Taster Day

At the end of Year 6, pupils have an opportunity to visit Stewards school as part of a Taster Day. This is set up in negotiation with the local Junior schools and helps to ease the pupils' transition from Junior to Secondary school.


Induction Day

The first day at Stewards in September is always a Year 7 Induction Day when new pupils get the chance to meet their tutor and teachers. During the day, pupils find their way around the site by completing a treasure hunt. They are sown how to use their planners and are given an introdution into the computer sytem at the school.


The Home School Agreement

At the start of Year 7, all parents, teachers and pupils sign and agreement to work together towards the childs academic success. This three way relationship helps support each child throughout their 5 years at Stewards.


The Stewards Challenge

At the school pupils work towards the Stewards Challenge. This requires them to meet targets for attendance and behvaiour. For those who are successful, rewards include a free trip at the end of each term.


Ladder of Success

At Stewards, all pupils are expected to work hard and be conscientious. They are encouraged to follow the ladder of success.

There is an ethos that it is good to do well. Pupils are proud to receive a Boffin Club or Hero Card.


Homework

Homework is a vital element of academic success and pupils in Year 7 are encouraged to develop good study habits. A Study Club takes place for an hour each night to support pupils through the Home/School Agreement their homework is monitored closely.

Getting Involved

Students are encouraged to get fully involved in school life, to take on positions of responsibility and join many extra curricular clubs. The prestigous School Council provides opportunities for pupils to represent thier school and the Form and Games Captains take on important roles of responsibility within their tutor group.


Educational Visits

In Year 7, there are a number of educational visits. Pupils are given the opportunity to go on a residential trip to Bude where they participate in a range of adventurous activities. There is also a day trip to France and a visit to a theme park in the Summer.


Year 7 pupils should make the most of the many opportunities provided during the course of the year.
