Key Stage 3

The Key stage 3 Programme of Study in Mathematics aims to provide pupils with a stimulating and challenging range of activities as they progress through the levels of the National Curriculum. The emphasis is on developing and refining the basic skills which are essential for success at Key Stage 3, and to apply these skills in real-life situations (functional skills).

An important aspect of the course is to encourage pupils to become an independent learner who is resourceful and confidently able to access materials and equipment and to use developing skills to solve problems in number work, algebra, geometry and statistics.

Pupils will experience activities which will improve their calculator skills, and they will also have access to a wide range of Information Technology facilities such as databases and spreadsheets on the Computer Network.

It is essential that pupils come to school equipped with a range of suitable mathematical instruments. Kits of equipment are available for purchase in the School Resources Centre.
