This is an Edexcel course designed to provide a work-related qualification in hospitality. The units studied will be:

  • The Hospitality Industry (core unit)
  • Basic Culinary Skills
  • Healthy Lifestyles

This is assessed continuously with no exam at the end of the course. The award will be dependent on the evidence gained within students’ portfolios. The grades awarded range from Pass (2 C’s), Merit (2 B’s) and Distinction (2 A’s). The coursework is continuous with each unit taking approximately 60 Guided Learning Hours (GLH).

This is a very practical course, including visits and evaluations of local hospitality outlets and students are encouraged to undertake a work experience within a hospitality outlet. The practical accommodation is as close to an industrial kitchen as it is possible to reproduce within a school environment and students are encouraged to present their evidence in a variety of formats – including oral presentations and videoed scenarios.
