Governors support the school wholeheartedly and play an active part in the life of the school. Six Governors are elected from the parents of children at Stewards School, four are appointed by Essex County Council, four appointed from the local Community, two are from the teaching staff and one from the other staff in the school. The Headteacher is also a member of the Governing Body.

The Governing Body comprises an effective mix of relatively new Governers and Governers who have been assoicated with the School for many years. They are thus able to bring a long term perspective and fresh ideas to current issues.

The Governers operate through three committees which report to the termly meeting of the full Governing Body. The committees are responsible for Staffing and Personnel matters, Curriculum, Finance and General Purposes. Coming from a a wide range of different occupations (including education, commerce and industry), the Governers bring their skills and experience to the benefit of the school through the work of these committees.
