R.E is taught throughout KS3 in mixed ability teaching groups by a team of specialist staff led by Mrs Archer, Head of History and R.E.  Pupils in Year 7-9 have the equivalent of one single periods of R.E per week.

The department is housed in it’s own suite of rooms and is well resourced with a wide range of text books and other support materials. 

Assessment
At the end of each unit of work pupils complete an assessment marked with a QCA N.C. level.

All pupils have an individual portfolio in which they store all completed assessments and completed exercise books allowing them to review their progress across the three years of KS3.

Religious Education KS4

Religious Studies is offered at GCSE.  Pupils are taught in mixed ability groups.  The GCSE syllabus taught is AQA Syllabus B Religious Studies.  It consists of a faith study in two religions, Christianity and Buddhism.  Also consideration of truth and spirituality and contemporary moral dilemmas and issues e.g. abortion, euthanasia, drug use and abuse, the media, wealth and poverty etc.

Pupils sit two examinations and undertake two coursework assignments
Examinations
Paper 1 (1¾ hours). Faith Studies and Ethics in two religions.
One compulsory question on worship.
Three questions on Relationships, Rights and Responsibilities.

Paper 2 (1¾ hours).  Truth, Spirituality and Contemporary  Issue.
One compulsory question on Truth and Spirituality.
Three questions based on the following six topics; Matter of Life, Matters of Death, Drugs, Media and Technology, Crime and Punishment, Rich and Poor in Society.

All pupils continue to have R.E lessons as part of their P.S.E.H.E.R.E course. 

In Year 10 the modules are:
Prejudice and Discrimination.
Crime and Punishment.
Take up the challenge to reflect on your spiritual nature.

In Year 11 the modules are:
Why mortality?
What role does religion have in the world today?
Human rights.
