STEWARDS SCHOOL MODERN LANGUAGES DEPARTMENT 2004 – 2005

CURRICULUM

* Pupils in Year 7 begin either French or German, Year 8 French, Year 9 French, Year 10 French or Spanish, Year 11 French.
* French, German and Italian are taught in the department.
* Able linguists follow an after school course to gain a GCSE in Spanish.
* Students are encouraged to choose to study a language to GCSE when it becomes an Option at the end of Year 9.

The department is equipped with interactive whiteboards in each classroom (Smart Boards) giving access to a wide range of ICT resources. In addition to main textbooks, we have an extensive resource bank including many video and DVD resources to support a wide variety of learning activities and teaching methods.

We are a team of enthusiastic, energetic teachers with a commitment to working to develop pupils’ literacy and language skills and their perceptions of language use in the modern world.

SETTING ARRANGEMENTS

Pupils in Year 7 are taught in mixed ability teaching
Pupils in Years 8 & 9 are taught in sets
Years 10 and 11 French and Spanish: Mixed Ability Option Groups

ACCOMMODATION

The Modern Languages department has its own suite of rooms on the first floor. Each member of the department has their own teaching room each with overhead projectors, CD players and audio recording equipment.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The department organises a variety of clubs and trips. We offer a revision study club for GCSE pupils.
Pupils are encouraged to take part in day trips, short residential trips.
