We recognise and value the contribution that extra-curricular activities bring to the personal development of our students. Stewards School has gained Distinction awards for "Education Extra" programme over many years. There are many opportunities to join in clubs and activities within the school, and the element of school life was categorised by OFSTED (2007) as outstanding.
School trips and visits to locations throughout Britain take place regularly. Residential visits are a feature of life at Stewards School These include outdoor adventure trips to Bude in Cornwall and to the Ardeche area of France, as well as educational day trips to France.
Pupils have attended major events at the Albert Hall where they have sold programmes in order to raise money for Leukemia research. Theatre trips are a regular feature of school life and this year pupils have had the opportunity to see productions ranging from Billy Elliot to Blood Brothers.
In Year 11 pupils have the opportunity to participate in a very special trip to New York. This is a wonderful experience which has a marked impact on those pupils fortunate enough to take part. Pupils accepted onto the trip must have good attendance and have completed coursework.
In 2003 Stewards School received a Sportsmark Award in recognition of our sporting achievements and have now achieved a Sportsmark Gold Award. Every child has the opportunity to take part in extra-curricular sport and there are representative teams for many sports in each year group. Inter-form sports competitions are also arranged. There is a long tradition of successful involvement in competitive sport and many teams and individuals have achieved considerable success including County, Regional and National honours.
For the past two years Stewards PE department regularly organises a Sports Tour for boys and girls who are part of the school sports teams and who commit to attending regular practice sessions. Tours have taken place in Manchester and Wales to compete against other schools in a range of sports.
Traditionally students at Stewards have excelled in the Arts. A number of successful Arts events are held during the year including the Talent Competition, Art Exhibition, Music Concerts, Drama productions and Gym festivals. Instrumental tuition is available at Stewards Music School.
In 2007 the very first Stewards Dance Festival took place at the Harlow Playhouse. This was a wonderfu event involving over 350 children from Stewards and our feeder Primary schools. |
